With our quintet Centerpiece we joined the festival for five days. The repertoire at the "center of jazz" with swing and bebop of the 40/50ies was well received by the audience. They liked our arrangements of musical pearls of this era, played with drive and high energy. The sweat was running on all outside stages, but we had a lot of fun together. This festival is one of the nicest in all of Europe.

Jan Luley Trio - successful debut concert
The first performance with the trio (Jan Luley - piano, vocals, Tobias Schirmer - drums, L.H. - bass) in Frankfurt showed that Jan´s  program "piano Tales" is very entertaining. With a garnish of funny little stories and background information the music leads through the piano wolrd of New Orleans from the beginning til today. We also work together at the

The anniversary festival of Breda was gigantic! The whole city was one big stage surrounded by tens of thousands of fans. I had the pleasure to perform with jazz greats like Eddie Metz jr., Jason Marsalis, Dan Barrett, Roy Williams, Michel Pastre, and, and, and... It was nice to meet the young Canadian trumpet player Bria Skonberg and many others. On Youtube ther is a video from one of our concerts: here

Now the Ascona Festival is coming up: from June 29 on we will be there with the "Centerpiece Quintet". The Ascona Jazz Festival is one of the most beautiful festivals in all of Europe - directly situated at lake Lago Maggiore, surounded by hugh mountains and the Italian border only 20 km away... just fantastic. Whoever is able to make it, should come!

Whatelse happened? I am working on the new edition of my own website, the English version is still under construction.

There are finally videos on Youtube of the great project "Jazz ExTempore Orchestra 2009" from last autumn: have a look

The debut concert of the "Jan Luley Trio" with the program "Piano Tales" was very successful. The audience enjoyed the tunes, the funny stories Jan told and the grand piano, he played on. Looking forward to the next concert on this Friday in Osterode...

Tomorrow I ´ll leave for the Netherlands. About 420 km to Breda, check-in at the Hotel, first meeting with the All Star Band and a first (non-official) concert in the evening. Yesterday I received the "Soloists Schedule" with the line-ups, times und locations for the concerts, I am part of: each day two or three concerts at different stages with different colleagues from all over the world. For instance with Canadian trumpet player Bria Skonberg, Lillian Boutté from New Orleans, Sir Roy Williams (most famous trombonist of GB), famous German clarinet player Engelbert Wrobel, Patrick Artéro from France etc. Especially I am looking forward to my two American drum partners: on one hand Eddie Metz, with whom I toured twice already, on the other hand I am going to meet the youngest son of the famous Marsalis family, brother of Wynton and Branford: Jason Marsalis. I am very excited to find out how we will sound together!

Only teh weather is not playing along yet, because many of the concerts will be outdoor at the old city of Breda. But the Netherland jazz lovers are used to bad weather and tough and I can take some warm sweaters with me, can´t I?

It was exciting: we met in this formation for the first time to record and perform the debut concert.

"We" means: Cora Brunner (sax), Nina Michelle (vocals), Gee Hye Lee (piano, me and of course the bandleader Charly Antolini on drums.

After 2 days of rehearsals and 2 days of recording (8 hours a day!) we got 16 tracks finished for the CD. On the last day we did the first life performance.

Since we recorded all in the same room, there was no chance to cut or overdub anything. But this makes the tunes very lively and inspired. For Charly ther was another premiere: for the first time in his career he is singing, supported by the "Antolini Singers" Cora, Nina and little ol´me. Well - we had good laughs :-)

The concert was great: sold out, with firing solos by all of us and Charly smiling all night, the audience was knocked out. What a start!

Then, on 22 January there was already the next concert in Senden, sold out again and great.

The CD will be mixed and mastered in February and hopefully published in March.

Release info on the CD and further concert dates will start in April throughout the year. Please check the website of Charly Antolini

A great band with fine musicianship and good spirits - what is more to ask? I enjoy it.

See ya soon!

Yours Lindy Huppertsberg
